Oh, to be SIX...

To my dearest Abigail Paige, on your 6th birthday--

My child, how dearly I love you! I hope that more than anything else I might convey to you in this lifetime, that you will know how deeply and unconditonally I love you. You are perfect just the way you are, and I'm so proud of the ever-maturing human-being that you are becoming.

Tomorrow, you will be six years old. I seriously can't believe how quickly the years have gone by. It seems as if you were just crawling around on the floor a few seconds ago... and now you use words like, "inappropriate" in everyday conversation (which warms my extremely verbose heart to no end). I'm sure I'll blink, and you'll be sixteen, then 24... then a mother of your very own children. (But, let's not talk about that just yet-- we still have virtual Kindergarten to get through!)

Abby, I want to tell you about a handful of things that I love about you today. My hope is that this letter will serve as a sort of reminder to BOTH of us on those days when we aren't seeing eye-to-eye. I want you to know how excellently I believe God has fashioned you. And I believe that on the good days AND the bad days. No matter what, I will always love you....

I love how passionate you are. I hope that you never lose that passion. Sometimes your "passion" gets you into a bit of trouble right now, but that's okay. You will need the skill of self-discipline if you plan to be the passionate sort, so I'm doing you a favor by helping you to keep your passion in check right now! So, don't stop wearing your ballet slippers and tights and swimsuit every morning-- you passionate spirit is such a blessing to me! (I can't wait for you to start "real" ballet lessons this week!)

I also love how thoughtful you are. Regardless of how impulsive you might be sometimes, you have a very genuine heart, and you often think of others before yourself. It may seem like a small thing to you, but I am almost moved to tears every time you present me with a drawing which you have painstakingly produced-- just for ME. There are times when that simple act is what lifts my spirits and keeps me going for the rest of the day. It is such a sweet reminder of how precious you are and how golden your heart remains.

I love how much you love your little sister and how you are always keeping an eye out for her. Yesterday, as you packed your bags to go to Grandma and Grandpa's house for the night, I was so proud of you when you said with such an incredibly sincere heart, "Mom, I'll make sure that Izze doesn't eat any nuts since she's allergic." I know that it's not always easy being the "big sister," but I think you're doing a great job. I'm SO very proud of you.

To close out this short list, I want to say how much I love your sincere heart for God. I thank God every day that You have already given your young heart to Him. I know that you still have a long journey ahead and will have to grow your faith more each day, but to see how readily you acknowledge Him and take your burdens to him is so encouraging to me. And, that faith will sustain you when everything else in life makes no sense whatsoever. Cling to Him. He will never leave you, and he loves you even more than I do!

Happy birthday, Abby. I hope that your sixth birthday is one of the best days of your life so far. Sweetheart, having YOU as my daughter makes every one of MY days extra-special.

Love you sooooooooooo much!

Hugs and kisses--

:-) Mommy
